Chez Louis Vuitton
Uncategorized
Last week, we went right inside the Louis Vuitton’s world in Asnières (near Paris). Not the Louis Vuitton side we are given to see, but the Louis Vuitton’s workshops and family house. It’s always an exciting experience to be able to learn a little of the history of such an emblematic brand. I had the same feelings the day I visited the Gucci workshops and the Maison Guerlain : at the end of the day, I was really enchanted and felt as though I belong ( a little bit ) to the Vuitton family !
I’ve learned so much about this brand and one thing was particularly moving : the monogram appears only after Louis Vuitton’s death ( in 1896, that is 4 years after his death ), it’s almost an anachronism, it seems so unlikely, eh ? Louis Vuitton, he himself never knew about his own monogram !! Whaaat !! ?? Louis Vuitton don’t know what the Louis Vuitton monogram is ! (OK, Betty, take a deep breath …).
Another story is that Louis Vuitton created the damier canvas to differenciate his bags from counterfeiting that he already encountered ( the first incongruous image that cross my mind right now, are gentlemen in 1890 at Charles De Gaulle airport trying to go through the customs with fake Vuitton trunks # anacronism #2 ). That leads one to think about the seemingly paradox : being plagiarized has sometimes positive sides, it makes you want to ever more innovating and thus never remain on the counterfeiters’s level.
Well, I’ll leave you to discover the pictures I have taken and hope you’ll have the same feeling as me ! : much passion and expertise ( Oh, neatly put ).
